The Project Engineer
Name: Cynthia Bassey
Company: Net Zero Technology Centre
Cynthia is a Project Engineer at the Net Zero Technology Centre in Aberdeen, Scotland where she works across projects focused on emissions reduction and energy transition. With experience spanning oil and gas, renewables and energy technology, she brings a cross-sector view of how the industry is evolving.
Her work supports the development and delivery of projects that aim to improve performance while reducing environmental impact.
Her journey into energy began with a strong awareness of the importance of access to reliable power, shaped by her early experiences growing up in Nigeria. Now working in the UK, she has gained insight into how energy priorities vary across regions, from access and affordability to security and decarbonisation. This gives her a practical understanding of how global energy challenges are experienced in different ways.
Alongside her professional role, Cynthia is actively involved in supporting early-career professionals through organisations such as the Energy Institute Young Professionals Network and Energyz Black. Through this, she contributes to events, mentoring and content that help build confidence and visibility for others entering the sector.
As a My Energy Future Champion, Cynthia is focused on sharing real experiences of working in energy and highlighting the range of pathways available. She is particularly interested in supporting those from underrepresented backgrounds and helping others see how transferable skills can create opportunities across different parts of the industry.
