A milestone moment for a new My Energy Future Champion

OPITO, alongside the British Embassy recently hosted a business breakfast in Mexico City, where Natalia Carrera Baltazar stepped onto the stage for the first time as a My Energy Future Champion for Campeche, Mexico.

This wasn’t just a speaking slot for Natalia, it was a moment of representation, a young professional standing up and showing what the future of Mexico’s energy workforce can look like.

Sharing a story with purpose

Natalia spoke about the opportunities emerging across Mexico’s energy sector and why inspiring the next generation matters now more than ever. Her message was simple, confident and honest:

• You don’t need a perfect pathway,
• curiosity can take you further than you expect
• and energy careers are wide, varied and full of real impact.

For many in the room, especially young women listening online, her voice made the industry feel closer, more attainable, and more human.

Why a Champion’s voice matters

The My Energy Future Champion programme exists for moments like this. Champions help young people see possibilities, not barriers. They show that the growing energy landscape has space for every kind of talent: engineers, safety specialists, technicians, data analysts, and innovators.
