World's largest floating wind farm planned off Dounreay

Plans have been proposed to launch the world largest floating wind farm, 4 miles off the coast of Dounreay, on the Caithness coast. This project is expected to generate power for about 70,000 homes (more than half the homes in the Highland Council Area) with work expected to start in 2025

This Offshore Wind Farm would see roughly 10 turbines on platforms that will be anchored to the seabed. This project will support the UK's plans to generate 50% of the country’s energy consumption from renewable sources by 2030.

The Pentland Floating Offshore Wind Farm, once complete, will generate up to 100 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy. Copenhagen Offshore Partners will be managing the project on behalf of Highland Wind Limited.

Innovative projects like this are important in aiding the government's target of net zero emissions by 2050.
